A self-proclaimed Prophet Leeroy Simabyu Shiri of Springs of Living Waters Ministries, Zimbabwe has been arrested after an audio of him assaulting a female church member went viral.
Known for his violent disciplinary methods, the self-proclaimed prophet found himself at odds with the law when several congregants finally mustered the courage to report him to the authorities.
It has come to light that Prophet Shiri has been in the habit of subjecting his congregants, including members of his security team, to violent acts of discipline whenever he deemed their actions to be wrong.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn when Violet Ndhleleni (54) was assaulted by Prophet Shiri after being accused of spreading false information about him. Fortunately, Ndhleleni managed to record the incident, and the audio recording subsequently leaked, causing public outrage.
The widely circulated audio recording exposes Prophet Shiri boasting about his disciplinary actions against other church congregants.
In the recording, he can be heard reprimanding Ndhleleni for speaking out and disrespecting him. The prophet’s voice is followed by the sound of multiple slaps, effectively silencing the woman. Furthermore, he was heard making threats of using his supernatural powers to curse those who defy him.
The incident has sparked a heated debate within the community, with many condemning his assault on congregants. Social media platforms have been inundated with messages expressing concern and calling on relevant authorities, including community leaders, to address this issue promptly.
The prophet has appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Mildred Matuvi. He was granted bail of US$50.
