Scores of Nigerian youths have taken to the streets of Abuja to protest the arrest of social media activist and influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM)

The demonstrators, seen around the Wuse area near the Berger Bridge, condemned his detention as unlawful and vowed to escalate their grievances to the National Human Rights Commission in Maitama.
VDM was reportedly arrested following a complaint by actress Tonto Dikeh, who accused him of cyberbullying and threats to life. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, revealed that the arrest was based on petitions from Dikeh, actress Iyabo Ojo, and singer Samklef.

Despite expectations of his release, VDM faced stringent bail conditions, including a ₦200 million bond, submission of his international passport, and sureties owning property and businesses in Abuja .
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police have denied involvement in VDM’s arrest, stating they were unaware of any such action . Meanwhile, prominent figures like Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju have condemned the arrest, labeling it an abuse of power and a threat to free speech .
Protesters carried placards with messages such as “Free VeryDarkMan,” demanding his immediate release and calling for accountability from law enforcement agencies. The situation continues to draw national attention, highlighting concerns over freedom of expression and the use of state power in personal disputes.
