A Lagos lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, has filed a N1 billion lawsuit to protect fundamental rights against the Nigerian federal government and its security agencies due to concerns about a planned nationwide protest.

Ogungbeje is taking action against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government and security forces for allegedly trying to prevent the upcoming ‘hunger protest’ set for August 1 to 10, 2024. According to Channels TV, the federal government is the first respondent, along with the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army, the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Security Service, and the Director General of the State Security Service.
