A UK-based Public Health Assistant, 48-year-old Olawale Oyebola Hakeemot, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for attempting to traffic illicit drugs through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos
Hakeemot was apprehended on October 12, 2025, at the departure hall of Terminal 2, while preparing to board a Qatar Airways flight to Manchester, United Kingdom. NDLEA officers discovered 2,300 pills of Tramadol 225mg carefully concealed inside frozen snails packed in her luggage.

According to the NDLEA, the arrest was part of a broader crackdown on drug smuggling networks attempting to export narcotics disguised in food items and household materials.
The agency also intercepted other drug shipments, including 15 parcels of skunk hidden in rechargeable electrical bulbs bound for the Democratic Republic of Congo, and 810 pills of bromazepam concealed in female clothing heading to the United States.
NDLEA officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine Hakeemot’s source of supply and other possible accomplices in the international drug trafficking network.
