Social media personality corper Raye believes one of the easiest ways to sell a product in Nigeria is to make it look exclusive.
According to her, it doesn’t even matter if the product is worth the price. Once it’s presented as something that isn’t meant for poor people, some buyers will be willing to spend the money just to show they can afford it.
In her words:
“You can sell anything to Nigerians, just add a little bit of classism and tell them it’s not for poor people, then watch them buy to prove they are not ‘poor’.”
Raye’s point is that, sometimes, the feeling of belonging to a certain social class becomes the real selling point. In her view, making a product appear exclusive can be enough to convince some people to buy it, regardless of whether it offers value for the price.
