England international Reece James has pledged his future to Chelsea F.C., signing a new six-year deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032
The 26-year-old, a product of Chelsea’s academy, made his senior debut in September 2019 and has since established himself as one of the club’s most important players. His previous contract was set to expire in 2028, but Chelsea moved quickly to secure fresh terms.

Reported first by The Athletic, the new agreement reportedly includes performance-based incentives tied to both individual and team achievements. James, already Chelsea’s highest-paid player, earns around £250,000 per week.
Since breaking into the first team, James has made 225 appearances for the club and has been a regular in the current Premier League season, starting 19 of 26 league matches.
His previous contract was signed shortly after Chelsea’s 2022 takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
Over his time at Stamford Bridge, James has helped the club lift several major trophies, including the 2021 UEFA Champions League, the 2021 UEFA Super Cup, and the 2025 Conference League and Club World Cup. He was appointed club captain three years ago.
The defender has faced a number of injury setbacks in recent seasons, including surgery in December 2023 to correct a recurring hamstring issue.
