Report Police misconduct to social media - IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged Nigerians to report the unprofessional conduct of police officers to the Police Complaints Response Unit instead of airing grievances on social media

He made this appeal on Monday during the PPROs/Police Communication Experts’ Conference in Asaba, Delta State.

Egbetokun emphasized, “We urge the public to refrain from using social media to report police misconduct and instead direct their complaints to the Police Complaints Response Unit.”

The police chief noted that addressing complaints on social media often results in misinformation, which can damage the reputation of the police force.

While acknowledging the role of social media in allowing citizens to voice their concerns, he cautioned that unverified information could lead to misunderstandings.

He assured that the Police Complaints Response Unit offers a more structured, accountable approach for handling complaints, underscoring the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability within the force.
