A woman rescued after being held captive in Woro, Kwara State has opened up about what she experienced during her time with her a.bductors
The woman, who is a nurse, said conditions in captivity were difficult, with food sometimes withheld and victims forced to remain close to their children for safety.
She also revealed that she became involved in helping pregnant women who were among the captives. Despite having no gloves or proper medical equipment, she said she assisted about 10 women during childbirth.
The victim further alleged that her abdvctors wanted her to remain with them, but she refused because she wanted to return home and continue her work as a nurse.
She also recounted how the a.ttackers allegedly invaded her community and k!lled her two brothers. According to her, the group claimed the a.ttack was connected to her father, who had previously prevented them from operating in the village.
When asked whether she or other captives were subjected to r.ape or s.exual assault, she denied experiencing such abuse. She also clarified that the pregnant women she saw were already pregnant before their a.bduction.
Recounting her experience, she said:
“Sometimes they will give up food, sometimes they will move to us. That’s why we used to sleep with our children.
“I’m also a nurse. I just used to help pregnant women doing delivery. I helped like 10 women for delivery without gloves. I used my hand to help them.
“But at last, they let me know. They want to keep me, that I have to stay with them, but I said no. I want to come back home to do my work.
“They always say that they are working for religion. They said that those people that they are a.ttacking are working with the Quran. That is why they enter our village and k!ll everybody.
“They even k!lled my brother, my senior brother, and my junior brother. They said it was because of my dad because my dad did not allow them to come to our village.
“My dad did not allow them. And the day that they came, they did not meet any soldier. They just came to our house. Suddenly, when I saw them, I knew that they were Boko Haram. They dressed in a way that I knew they were Boko Haram.”
When asked about se.xual assault, she responded:
“No. No case of ra.pe or se.xual assault, no.”
