The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka in Enugu State has confirmed the k!lling of Rev Fr Matthew Eya
He was shot d3ad on Thursday night at Ishiogwu, located along the Eha-Alumona–Eha-Ndiagu road in Nsukka Local Government Area.
In a statement, Rev Fr Cajetan Iyidobi, Chancellor of the Diocese, described the murder as heartbreaking, saying:
“Shocked to the marrow, it is with crushing pain and sorrow, yet a total submission to the will of the Almighty God and a firm hope in the resurrection of the dead, that I inform you of the tragic death of yet another brother of ours, Rev Fr Matthew Eya. He was shot d3ad yesterday, 19 September 2025, along the Eha-Alumona-Eha-Ndiagu road. Let us remain ardent in prayer that God sees us through this period of devastating anguish.”
On the same night, suspected armed robbers reportedly attacked Ezimo in neighbouring Udenu LGA, killing a police officer assigned to the country home of Deputy Inspector General of Police and former Force PRO, Frank Mbah.
The Enugu State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
