Veteran Nollywood actor Ricardo Agbor has shared the story of the long road he and his wife travelled before becoming parents, revealing that they waited 18 years before welcoming their twins.
During an interview with AfricanAList, Agbor said the years of waiting never changed how he felt about his wife.
He recalled marrying the woman he loved despite coming from different ethnic backgrounds, saying their marriage remained peaceful even when some people expected otherwise. He said:
“I wanted to get married to a particular lady; I married her regardless of where she is from. She is not from my tribe. So ordinarily, we were supposed to have strife; no, it was very fair.”
Looking back on the journey, the actor said he refused to lose hope. He believed that when the time finally came, it would be worth the wait. He also revealed that he specifically prayed for twins.
Agbor said there were moments when many people would have chosen a different path, but he stayed the course. Today, he says he is grateful that his prayer was answered with a boy and a girl.
“It took 18 years for me to have the twins. And I waited. God knows, 18 years and they are 14 now, so I told God I wanted twins. So while that wait was on, if it were someone else, he would cross. But at the end of the day, I have twins. I have a boy and a girl. I asked God what I wanted”, he said.
The veteran actor also reflected on losing his mother, describing it as the most painful experience of his life. He said doctors had recommended taking her to South Africa after weeks of treatment produced no improvement, but she instead asked to be moved to another hospital in Surulere.
“My mom d!ed right in my arms… It was my mom that told me to take her away from that place. As I was carrying her into the car, she gave up”, he stated.
He said the experience left him heartbroken and brought him to tears in a way nothing else ever had.
“I think that was the first time I cried in my life. I don’t cry. If I cry, maybe it is in a movie and it is a role. So I cried. It was painful”, he said.
