Rufai Oseni has questioned the Federal Government over the cost of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, criticising the response he received after asking officials to disclose the cost per kilometre.
In a post shared, the broadcaster expressed concern over the government’s reaction to his questions, insisting that seeking details about public spending should not attract opposition. He also questioned the description of the coastal road, using the phrase “Queen of the Coast” to highlight his concerns.
He wrote:
“The government has confirmed that the coastal road will no longer pass through the coast; it is now called the ‘Queen of the Coast.’ When I asked them to disclose the cost per kilometer, they protested against me for simply demanding accountability in Ebonyi State”.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a major Federal Government project designed to cover approximately 700 kilometres, connecting Lagos to Cross River State through several coastal states. Construction began in 2024 under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Works Minister David Umahi previously put the cost at about ₦4 billion per kilometre, although the project has faced questions over its overall cost, contract award and transparency. The highway is intended to improve transportation and connectivity along Nigeria’s coastline.
