The Russian Embassy in Nigeria has issued a statement denying any involvement with a group of protesters in northern Nigeria who were seen carrying Russian flags and chanting slogans in support of President Vladimir Putin
The protesters, who marched through the streets, also held placards with various messages.
Russia has faced accusations of interfering in political upheavals in several West African countries, including Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.
However, the Embassy emphasized that Russia does not meddle in the internal affairs of other countries, including Nigeria.
The statement clarified that the protesters’ actions do not reflect any official Russian government policy or position.
It added that Russia respects Nigerian democracy and believes that peaceful demonstrations, in conformity with Nigerian law, are a manifestation of democracy.
However, the Embassy condemned any disruptions or acts of violence that may arise from such events.
