Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday welcomed Lagos State’s One-Day Governor, Esther Etiyemonu, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House in Marina
Etiyemonu arrived at the Government House alongside her deputy, Dorcas Awoyemi, and Olaide Salami, who served as Secretary to the State Government for the day.

Sharing moments from the visit on Instagram, Sanwo-Olu described Etiyemonu as the overall champion of the 21st Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition and a student of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta.
“Today, I received Miss Etiyemonu Esther, the One Day Governor and overall winner of the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, a student of Lagos State Senior Model College Igbokuta, at Lagos House, Marina.”
The governor commended her achievement, applauding her dedication and composure.
“Her confidence, focus, and hard work stand out. She represents the very best of our youth, and I am proud of her achievements.
“Esther, all of Lagos is rooting for you and your future. Congratulations once again.”
Etiyemonu clinched the top prize at the 21st edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee, staged in December 2025 at the Eko FM Multi-purpose Hall. Her triumph earned her the symbolic role of One-Day Governor, giving her the opportunity to carry out official state duties in that capacity.
She also received a cash prize of N1 million.
Dorcas Awoyemi of Ikosi Senior High School secured second place and was awarded N750,000, while Olaide Salami of Angus Memorial Senior High School finished third, earning N500,000.
Earlier, the Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, hosted Etiyemonu and highlighted that the One-Day Governor initiative aims to introduce young students to governance, leadership, and public service while nurturing civic responsibility.
Agoro encouraged her to treat the experience as a stepping stone toward greater leadership roles and congratulated her on her success.
The Lagos State Spelling Bee competition was originally introduced by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, alongside the wife of the Lagos State governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
