In response to the severe traffic congestion experienced by Lagos residents on Independence Bridge on Wednesday, April 2, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited the area on Thursday, April 3, to assess the ongoing repair works

Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, confirmed the governor’s visit, stating that Sanwo-Olu arrived at the site at 9:59 am, accompanied by government officials.
Gawat shared a video of the visit on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “FLASH: Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu arrives at the Independence Bridge, Bonny Camp road repairs this morning to see the work being done by the Federal Ministry of Works. Mr Governor arrived here 9:59 am in company of State Government Officials.”
In a follow-up post, Sanwo-Olu apologized to Lagos residents for the traffic disruptions caused by the repair works, explaining that the decision to fix the bridge had been planned for over three years and was essential to prevent a potential disaster.
The repair project is being managed by Messrs Buildwell Construction under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works.
Sanwo-Olu assured residents that all alternative routes would be cleaned better than before, and additional traffic officers and security personnel would be deployed, similar to the arrangements during the December period.
He also appealed to Lagosians to continue adhering to traffic regulations, advising that offices could work remotely or online during the course of the repairs.
