Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has initiated reconciliation efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), holding a closed-door meeting with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and members of the party’s Strategy and Way Forward Committee

The talks, which are part of broader efforts to reposition the PDP ahead of future political challenges, were confirmed by Saraki in a post on social media.
“I’m currently in Enugu State with His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, as well as Senators Seriake Dickson and Ibrahim Dankwambo, both members of the PDP Strategy and Way Forward Committee,” he wrote.
“We’re here to have the necessary conversations—frank, focused, and long overdue—as we work to reposition our party for the future it deserves.”
The meeting comes amid growing political tension, following recent remarks by Minister of Works Dave Umahi, who claimed that all South-East governors—including Mbah—are now aligning with President Bola Tinubu and may soon endorse his 2027 re-election bid.
Saraki’s engagement in Enugu, alongside former governors Dickson and Dankwambo, underscores the PDP’s commitment to strengthening its base in the South-East region. The party continues to grapple with internal divisions and external political pressures as it strategizes for the 2027 general elections.
