The Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied widely circulated report claiming that former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has been banished from the party for 30 year

In a statement issued by Hon. Darius Kurah, the State Publicity Secretary, the party clarified that the report, which was attributed to Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, is entirely untrue and does not reflect the position of the party. Kurah emphasized that Aiyenigba is not the party’s National Publicity Secretary, contrary to what was claimed, and that the legitimate spokesperson of the SDP remains Ambassador Judith Shua’ibu.
“Any statement issued under Aiyenigba’s name in that capacity is null, unauthorized, and of no consequence,” the statement read.
Kurah further explained that the SDP operates under a constitution that clearly outlines procedures for membership and disciplinary actions. He noted that at no point was El-Rufai issued a query, summoned to a disciplinary hearing, or served an expulsion notice by any legally recognized organ of the party, including his ward or the National Working Committee (NWC).
The party also dismissed claims that El-Rufai was promoting the activities of rival parties, describing such allegations as “baseless and unsubstantiated.” It stated that El-Rufai has not presented himself as an official member of the SDP in any capacity, although he has completed all constitutional requirements for membership, including ward registration.
“This misleading publication appears to be a politically motivated attempt to cause confusion within the party and the general public,” the statement continued. “It is unfortunate that individuals with no constitutional authority within the party structure are being used to orchestrate cheap propaganda and character assassination.”
The Kaduna SDP reiterated that any claim suggesting El-Rufai’s suspension or expulsion is a fabrication aimed at stirring unnecessary political controversy.
