Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has threatened new legal action against the Senate leadership after security operatives blocked her from entering the National Assembly complex on Tuesday, despite a court ruling that nullified her earlier suspension

Natasha, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended for six months earlier this year but was recently reinstated by a Federal High Court judgment. Speaking after walking into the complex on foot, she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of flouting the law.
“Akpabio cannot be greater than the Nigerian Constitution. The Office of the Senate President doesn’t give me legitimacy as a senator. My legitimacy came from the people of Kogi who voted for me and INEC who declared me winner,” she said.
She dismissed claims that an appeal from the Senate could override the ruling by Justice Binta Nyako, describing the Senate’s actions as contemptuous.
“That I’ve been denied entrance is a statement being made. It’s on record that the National Assembly under Akpabio has decided to be in contempt of a court decision. And it’s ironic—they are lawmakers. That poses a question: how far is our democracy?”
Calling her suspension “fraudulent,” Natasha revealed she will consult her legal team and proceed to the appellate court for interpretation and enforcement of the ruling.
“I’m a law-abiding citizen,” she added.
