Family members, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers gathered in Lagos on Wednesday, June 10, for a Service of Songs in honour of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.
The solemn event, is held at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, brought together members of the entertainment industry and admirers of the actor’s work, who came to celebrate his life, legacy, and contributions to Nollywood. The gathering marks the first major funeral event ahead of his final burial rites scheduled for June 18 in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State.
Alexx Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 after a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer, according to reports and family announcements. His death sent shockwaves across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with colleagues and fans mourning the loss of one of Nollywood’s most recognizable actors.
Known for his charismatic screen presence, romantic roles, and humanitarian efforts, Ekubo built a successful career spanning over two decades and appeared in numerous hit Nollywood productions. He was widely admired for his versatility and influence within the industry.
