Actor Shawn Faqua and his bride, Sharon Ifunanya Maduekwe, made history by hosting Nigeria’s first-ever wedding aboard a moving train
The unique ceremony took place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, aboard the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway, departing from Mobolaji Johnson Train Station in Alagomeji-Yaba, Lagos.
The train was beautifully decorated, turning the coach into a romantic venue on wheels for the couple to exchange their vows.
The wedding blended tradition with innovation. Prior to the train ceremony, the couple celebrated their union with an Igbo traditional wedding, Ịgba Nkwụ Nwanyị, in Lagos.
Guests and the bride donned classic Igbo attire, including hollandaise wrappers, isi agu robes, coral beads, and bold ichafu head ties, reviving post-colonial bridal aesthetics.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) praised the couple’s creativity, hailing the event as historic and a showcase of love and innovation. Videos and photos of the train wedding have gone viral, drawing admiration for the couple’s bold and unique celebration.
