The Isiokpo traditional council in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has declared eight days of mourning following the death of their illustrious son, Dr. Herbert Wigwe.

According to a statement by His Royal Majesty, King Blessing A.N. Wagor JP, the mourning period would begin on Wednesday, February 14 and end on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

The monarch had directed that all shops, markets and other business places remained closed from 8am to 4pm daily, adding that mourners would gather at Isiokpo roundabout for procession to His Majesty’s place while business activities will be low keyed on the subsequent days.

The statement urged all sons and daughters of Isiokpo ancient kingdom at home and abroad to tie black bands during the mourning period in honour of their kinsman.

”The entire people of Isiokpo ancient kingdom mourn the tragic loss of their illustrious son, an accomplished entrepreneur and business mogul, Dr Herbert O. Wigwe”, the statement partly reads.

Meanwhile, The National Transportation Safety Board, USA says a preliminary report on the helicopter crash that claimed Wigwe’s life will be released within four weeks.

Wigwe, his wife Doreen, their son Chizi, and the former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Abimola Ogunbanjo, lost their lives in the tragic air crash.
