Simi has advised fellow musicians to be intentional and sincere when signing new talents, warning against doing it just for status or public image
In a recent chat with media personality VJ Adams, the award-winning singer stressed that signing an upcoming artist should come from genuine commitment—not as a vanity move or career milestone.
“I can sign an artist, but it’s unfair when it’s treated like a checklist item. For the person being signed, it’s their life and dream—not just a side project,” she explained.
Simi emphasized that only those who are truly passionate about artist development should take on such responsibilities. “If things aren’t going well—if the hit song doesn’t land—are you still in it? That’s the kind of dedication it takes,” she said.
Drawing from her own journey, Simi recalled the questions she had when she was being signed: “I always wondered—‘Do you believe in me? Or am I just another name on your roster?’”
She urged the industry to approach mentorship and talent development with purpose, highlighting the emotional and professional weight such decisions carry.
