Singer, Simi has addressed renewed online criticism after old tweets of hers resurfaced
The controversy comes amid heightened conversations around sexual violence and accountability, particularly following a viral video where a TikTok user’s rape claim was later proven false.
Simi, known for speaking out against sexual assault, had urged men to hold their peers accountable and condemned the normalization of such acts.

Some social media users dug up posts from Simi’s X account dating back more than a decade, interpreting them as inappropriate.
On Sunday, she took to X to respond: “I haven’t been on Twitter today – but someone brought a few of my old tweets to my attention and I can’t not address it.”
She explained her age at the time, saying, “14 years ago, I was 23, so I was definitely not a child. I’m not here to make excuses because I don’t have anything to make excuses for. What I can’t let anyone do is twist my story to fit false narratives.”
Simi clarified that the tweets were written during a period when she was helping her mother run a daycare while developing her music career.
She said the posts reflected routine interactions with children and were never intended to be harmful.
Reiterating her position on sexual violence, she added, “I have always spoken against ra.pe and sexual assault even before you knew I existed. It’s not a costume I’m wearing, it’s who I am… I said stop raping women. I stand by it.”
