In a pointed message shared via his Instagram Story, Okoye wrote:
“Social media is going to destroy a lot of people… you might think it’s just cruise, clout or to trend — your eye go clear.”
Though he didn’t mention names, his post comes shortly after a controversial video by artist Speed Darlington went viral. In the clip, Speed Darlington claimed to have slept with a 15-year-old girl — a statement he later retracted, admitting it was fabricated to stir controversy and promote his music.
The backlash was swift, with many Nigerians calling for action. Speed Darlington has since apologized, describing his comment as a publicity stunt. Meanwhile, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched an investigation into the matter.
Okoye’s warning reflects a growing concern over the dangers of using social media irresponsibly. His message is a reminder that in the pursuit of virality, many risk crossing legal and moral lines — often with irreversible consequences.
