The Department of Home Affairs in South Africa has detained Anabela Rungo, the mother of model Chidimma Adetshina, in Cape Town

Rungo’s detention follows the revocation of her South African documentation in September 2024, which was obtained fraudulently.
Despite being declared “undesirable” in South Africa, Rungo allegedly continued to reside in the country using her Mozambican passport.
The operation, conducted by investigators from the Counter-Corruption and Immigration Services branches, also found Adetshina’s underage child living with Rungo.
Rungo will be handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) as she is also under investigation by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.
The Department of Home Affairs is collaborating with the Department of Social Development and SAPS Child Protection Unit to ensure the welfare of Adetshina’s child.
Adetshina, a renowned model and winner of Miss Universe Nigeria last year, had initially entered the Miss South Africa pageant but later withdrew. The incident has brought attention to Rungo’s alleged identity fraud and fraudulent obtainment of South African citizenship.
