A petition with over 1,400 signatures is urging the removal of Chidimma Adetshina, a 23-year-old contestant, from the Miss South Africa pageant due to her Nigerian heritage

Adetshina, born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and a South African mother of Mozambican descent, is one of the top 13 contestants vying for the Miss SA 2024 title.
The petition gained momentum after Adetshina removed Nigerian and Mozambican flags from her TikTok profile.
Additionally, her status as a divorced mother has sparked controversy, although Miss SA’s updated rules allow divorced and married women to compete.
The Miss South Africa organization has confirmed that Adetshina meets the eligibility criteria, possessing a valid South African ID and having a South African mother.
The organization stated, “All documentation provided by entrants is screened and vetted. Chidimma is a South African citizen and has met all requirements to participate in the competition.”
