The Southern Governors’ Forum is currently holding a meeting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, marking their first gathering since the passing of former chairman, Rotimi Akeredolu, in December 2023

According to Vanguard, meeting is taking place at the Presidential Lodge, Ibara Housing, Abeokuta, and has drawn attendance from ten governors from southern Nigeria.
The governors in attendance include Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Alex Otti (Abia), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Bassey Otu (Cross River), and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom). Additionally, deputy governors from Imo, Delta, and Ondo states are also present at the meeting.
While the agenda and outcomes of the meeting have not been made public, it is anticipated that the governors will discuss key regional issues and may elect a new chairman to succeed the late Akeredolu.
The meeting is a significant gathering of southern governors, aimed at addressing common challenges and exploring opportunities for regional cooperation and development.
