Omoyele Sowore has alleged that there may be political undertones behind the detention of Blord, suggesting the case goes beyond ordinary legal proceedings
Speaking after visiting him in custody, Sowore said the arrest appeared to have been planned, describing it as an example of “lawfare” — the weaponization of the legal system to target individuals.
He also pointed to a possible political trigger, stating that Blord may have come under pressure after publicly distancing himself from a group he referred to as “city boys.”
“But we also found out that there are some political undertones involved as well… apparently he made a video saying he will never join city boys… you know the guys who are supporting… so they said that because of that they gave him the impression that yes you think you are wise…”
Sowore explained that this development, alongside the legal process used against him, raises concerns about whether the arrest was influenced by political interests.
Beyond the political angle, he noted that Blord remains in high spirits despite his detention, appreciating the support he has received from Nigerians. He said the businessman is not seeking sympathy or pleading for release, but instead remains calm and prepared for whatever outcome.
“He has used his opponent to rest because he hasn’t rested in a long time… we should let the public know that he’s not begging anyone… he’s not in a hurry, he’s not worried, he’s not concerned.”
Sowore added that Blord enjoys respect among inmates and is using the period as a time for reflection, while a growing network of lawyers and activists continues to monitor the situation and push back against what they describe as unjust persecution.
