2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has distanced himself from the emerging coalition of opposition figures preparing for the 2027 general election

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju had earlier on Wednesday urged Sowore to align with other opposition leaders to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.
But in a Facebook post, Sowore firmly rejected the idea, describing the coalition as a gathering of corrupt politicians.
“I won’t be part of any coalition formed by looters. I did not join Atiku Abubakar in looting the Nigerian Customs dry,” Sowore said.
He also took aim at former Senate President David Mark, accusing him of embezzling funds meant to improve telecommunications and betraying democracy during the June 12 crisis.
Sowore further alleged that former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, another member of the coalition, violated human rights and looted public funds under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
He also blamed former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai for allegedly masterminding the killings of Shiite Muslims and enabling what he described as genocide in Southern Kaduna.
On Peter Obi, Sowore criticized the former Labour Party presidential candidate for clearing goods at the Tin Can Ports on behalf of late military dictator Sani Abacha, claiming Obi played a role in aiding the regime’s corruption.
His comments follow a major meeting of several opposition figures in Abuja on Wednesday, where they finalized plans to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform to unseat the APC in 2027.
