Sowore urges release of bloggers sllegedly arrested by Elumelu

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called for the immediate release of bloggers reportedly arrested over online comments about billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu.

Sowore, reacting to the development, questioned the justification for detaining individuals over social media commentary.

He argued that public figures who actively engage with online platforms should be open to scrutiny and discussion.
“Those guys should be released immediately, we’ve asked them to release those boys,” Sowore said.

“Even Tony Elumelu lives his life on the internet, always showing that he has private jets and all, why’s he worried about being spoken about on the internet?”.

He further criticized what he described as a contradiction between benefiting from social media visibility and allegedly taking action against critics.

“Tony Elumelu is the biggest content creator in the billionaire industry, he cannot be benefiting from social media and then arresting bloggers who talk about him,” he added.

The situation has sparked debate online, with many users weighing in on issues of free speech, digital expression, and the rights of public figures. As of now, there has been no official response from Elumelu regarding the allegations.
