In a thrilling quarterfinal match, Spain secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Germany, courtesy of a late goal from substitute Mikel Merino in extra time

The game seemed destined for a penalty shootout until Merino’s header from Dani Olmo’s cross broke the deadlock in the 119th minute, sending Spain to the semifinals.
Earlier, Olmo had given Spain the lead in the 51st minute with a precise shot into the bottom corner, but Florian Wirtz’s 89th-minute equalizer forced extra time.
Despite Germany’s late push for a leveler, Spain held on to set up a semifinal clash with either Portugal or France.
