The Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has given the federal government a seven-day strike notice
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, the unions issued an ultimatum to resolve outstanding labour disputes within seven days or risk a nationwide strike.

The letter, signed by NASU General Secretary Peter Adeyemi and SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim, was released to journalists on Monday in Abuja.
Their demands include the payment of N50 billion in earned allowances, settlement of withheld salaries, arrears from a 25/35 percent salary increment, and the conclusion of the long-pending renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/NASU/SSANU agreement.
The unions accused the government of shortchanging their members in universities and excluding staff in inter-university centres from the N50 billion allowance disbursement.
They also demanded immediate payment of the withheld arrears and salary increment, insisting that government assurances have not been fulfilled.
“Despite assurances, nothing concrete has been done to pay our members,” they stated.
They further criticized the government for sidelining non-teaching unions in the renegotiation process, calling the delay unfair and unacceptable.
“In light of persistent neglect, we serve a seven-day notice effective September 15, 2025. Failure to act will trigger industrial actions, including strikes,” the unions warned.
