The Senate has cautioned suspended Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, against attempting to return to the chamber, insisting there is no court order mandating her immediate recall

In a statement issued Sunday, Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu said the lawmaker’s suspension remains in effect and that a recent judgment by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court does not compel the Senate to reinstate her before the suspension expires.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 after a heated altercation over seating arrangements, during which she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual misconduct—a claim he vehemently denied.
The embattled senator had announced plans to resume plenary on Tuesday, July 22, citing the court’s ruling. But the Senate maintains that the ruling lacks any enforceable directive for her return.
“It is therefore surprising and legally untenable that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan… is attempting to act upon an imaginary order of recall that does not exist,” Adaramodu said.
He added that any move by the senator to forcefully resume duties would violate due process and disrupt legislative proceedings.
“The Senate will, at the appropriate time, consider the advisory opinion of the court on both amending the Standing Orders… and communicate same thereof to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan,” he noted.
Until then, she has been urged to “stay away from the Senate chambers and allow due process to run its full course.”
