The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to workers planning to embark on an indefinite strike declared by labour unionsSTRIKE: Workers may face six months jail term — FG warns

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), cautioned that failing to provide the required 15-day notice before striking, may result in a six-month jail term.

Fagbemi emphasized that the Trade Disputes Act criminalizes non-compliance with this provision, and the government has been engaging stakeholders to determine a new national minimum wage.

He noted that the proposed strike breaches an ongoing court order and settlement efforts.

The government urges workers to reconsider the strike action and return to negotiation meetings, adopting a conciliatory approach to resolve matters. This will avoid hardships on Nigerians and enable the labour congress to pursue their cause within the law.
