A suicide bomber attacked a military convoy in the Timbuktu triangle area of Borno State, k!lling five soldiers and injuring an unspecified number of others, security sources have confirmed. Among the casualties were two senior officers—a major and a lieutenant
According to one soldier, “The attack caused significant damage to military equipment used for offensive and defensive operations during the weeks-long clearance operations.”

The troops had been returning from a successful clearance mission that dismantled several insurgent camps and neutralized multiple militants when the explosion occurred.
An officer, who requested anonymity, said: “Every operation comes with setbacks, but we overcame it. Unfortunately, we lost five soldiers in the incident. Manga is hale and hearty and the operation continues. Armoured and logistics vehicles were destroyed when the van loaded with explosives rammed the convoy on Tuesday.”
The bodies of the fallen soldiers have been flown to Maiduguri, while the injured are receiving medical treatment.
The Timbuktu triangle is known for previous attacks, including the ambush of Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was captured and executed by terrorists in the area.
On Monday, troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, had reported clearing multiple terrorist camps and thwarting drone attacks in the region.
