Super Eagles remain 26th in latest FIFA rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained 26th place in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings but dropped to fourth in Africa following Monday’s update

Eric Chelle’s side have not played since their 2-1 defeat to Portugal in an international friendly in June, with the result doing little to alter their position in the global standings.

However, Nigeria lost ground on the continental rankings after Egypt’s impressive run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Pharaohs climbed to third in Africa after reaching the Round of 16, where they suffered a 3-2 defeat to eventual runners-up Argentina.

Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup. The Atlas Lions also moved up one place globally from seventh to sixth.

Senegal retained second place in Africa despite dropping three places in the world rankings.

Algeria, who slipped one place globally, complete Africa’s top five in fifth position on the continent.

At the top of the global rankings, newly crowned world champions Spain returned to No. 1, replacing Argentina, who dropped to second after losing the World Cup final.

France, England and Brazil complete the world’s top five.

FIFA is scheduled to release its next men’s world rankings on October 7, 2026.
