The family of Taiwo Akinkunmi, has decided to proceed with his burial after waiting for a year of a promised state funeral that is yet to materialise
Akinkunmi passed away on September 4, 2023, at the age of 87.
Despite the government’s promise to honor him with a state funeral, no arrangements were allegedly made, prompting the family to take action.
The Oyo state government has now stepped in to fund the burial rites, which started from September 4 and ends 6, 2024, in Ibadan.
The family remains hopeful that the government will still fulfill its promises regarding the burial plan.
Also, the delay has resulted in significant expenses for the family, including daily morgue fees of N2,000.
