Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has postponed his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State

In a statement released Tuesday in Jalingo, Kefas described the tragedy as heartbreaking, stressing that it would be inappropriate to continue with political activities while families and the nation are still in shock.

“My decision follows the deeply saddening kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, because I believe the safety and well-being of the children are far more important than any political activity,” he said.

The governor extended his condolences to the families of the abducted girls and to the Federal Government. He urged security agencies to intensify rescue efforts to ensure the victims’ safe return.

The defection event, originally scheduled for November 19, 2025, has been suspended pending further consultations and improvements in the security situation.

Meanwhile, political shifts in Taraba State have accelerated ahead of the planned defection. In the past 48 hours, all PDP members in the State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, cabinet members, and senior government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, have defected to the APC.

Party leaders praised the governor for postponing the defection rally, describing the decision as a gesture of solidarity with the abducted schoolgirls and their families.
