Taylor Swift has finally reclaimed ownership of her entire early music catalog, marking a major victory in her years-long battle for control over her masters

On May 30, 2025, Swift announced that she had purchased the master recordings of her first six albums from Shamrock Capital, the investment firm that previously owned them. The acquisition includes Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation, along with music videos, concert films, album artwork, and previously unreleased material.
This milestone comes after a highly publicized dispute that began in 2019 when music executive Scooter Braun acquired Big Machine Records, the label that originally held Swift’s masters. Outraged by the sale and lack of transparency, Swift chose to re-record her albums under the “Taylor’s Version” label to regain creative and financial control over her work.
With this latest deal, Swift now owns both her re-recordings and the original master recordings, effectively securing full control over her musical legacy. The purchase is reported to be a nine-figure deal and is being hailed as a landmark moment for artist rights in the music industry.
Swift’s move not only brings closure to a long-standing feud but also sends a strong message about ownership and empowerment for artists worldwide.
