Terrorists who abducted 176 women and children from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have reportedly issued a one-week ultimatum, threatening to carry out mass k!llings if their demands are not met by the government
The attackers, suspected to be linked to Boko Haram, were said to have delivered the warning through some of the abducted victims after Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers, according to community members and relatives.
The traditional ruler of the community, Salihu Bio, whose wife is also among those kidnapped, confirmed the development on Monday while speaking to journalists.
He said one of the abductees was permitted to reach out to her family to pass on the message from the captors.
“The abductees told us that after the Jumu’ah prayer on Friday, the terrorists said the government was not taking the matter seriously and that if nothing is done within one week, they will begin to take drastic actions,” he said.
Bio added that the group also expressed frustration over what they described as a lack of serious engagement from authorities in negotiating the victims’ release, despite their claims of sustaining them.
He further disclosed that one of the kidnapped victims was able to speak with her family on Saturday and confirmed they were alive and in stable condition.
“The terrorists allowed one of the abductees to call her family on Saturday, and she confirmed that they were all fine. She also said the captors have been teaching them Arabic and Islamic knowledge,” he added.
