Tesla is recalling around 4,000 Cybertrucks because of a sticky accelerator pedal issue. The problem arose due to an unauthorized change that introduced soap as a lubricant during assembly, causing the pedal pad to stick.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects all 2024 Cybertrucks made between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024. This means most, if not all, of the Cybertrucks on US roads are included in the recall.

The NHTSA documents highlight that applying high force to the pedal pad could dislodge it, trapping the pedal in the interior trim. The issue was initially raised in social media and online discussions.

Unlike previous Tesla recalls, this problem requires physical repairs at Tesla service centers, as it can’t be fixed with a software update. Owners will receive letters instructing them to bring in their Cybertrucks for a free repair.

Tesla hasn’t responded to requests for comment. However, earlier this month, the company announced layoffs affecting about 10% of its global workforce.
