In a recent interview on the +44 podcast, renowned Afrobeats artist Davido shared an intriguing story from his early career days.
The singer, who recently celebrated a high-profile wedding, recounted how he played a pivotal role in introducing British-Nigerian producer Maleek Berry to fellow superstar Wizkid.
Davido described a period when he left his father’s home in Nigeria and fled to London. During this time in the UK, which he considers a “second home,” he formed a friendship with Maleek Berry.
The “Fall” hitmaker then took credit for facilitating the connection between Maleek and Wizkid, a move that would later prove significant in the Afrobeats music scene.
In his own words, Davido stated, “The first place I went to when I ran from home was London. London is like a second home for me. I am the first to know Maleek Berry, I introduced Maleek Berry to Wizkid. From there, I came back to Nigeria.”
