Toke Makinwa says one thing she has never experienced in any of her relationships is a man asking her for money, and she hopes it stays that way.
According to the media personality, the moment a partner turns to her for financial support, the relationship is over.
Speaking on a recent episode of her podcast, ‘Toke Moments’ she spoke about women financially supporting their partners. She admitted she sometimes finds herself wondering why no man she has dated has ever made that request.
“When I hear women say these things, I sit down and I ask myself, why don’t men ask me for money? Men don’t ask me for money”, she said.
She laughed about what could be the reason, joking that maybe she unknowingly discourages it by talking about her own challenges before anyone even thinks of asking her for help.
“Maybe there is something on my head. Maybe because before you ask me, I’m already giving you all my problems? As soon as you say how are you? Today I have a headache.’ Maybe that’s why”, Toke said.
She also said that even when she had been with men who weren’t doing well financially, they still never expected her to take care of them.
She said:
“I’ve never dated a guy who has ever asked me for money. Even if I date a broke guy, he earns 5K, at least 3K out of that money he’ll give it to me”.
She said she considers herself fortunate that none of the men she’s dated has ever asked her for money.
“I’m thankful for that grace though, because I’ve never, ever, ever dated a guy that has confidently asked me for money. The day you do, you’ll never hear from me again”, she stated.
Toke made it clear that asking her for money is a boundary she has no intention of crossing.
