A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) convention planning committee, Dino Melaye, has alleged that there were attempts to block party members from accessing the venue of its proposed national convention in Abuja, despite full payment for the facility

Melaye, who also chairs the protocol committee, said the organisers were nearly locked out and asked to vacate the premises even after a valid agreement had been reached with the venue management.

He stated this on Tuesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, amid growing controversy surrounding the party’s planned convention and the choice of venue.

According to him, preparations were almost disrupted on Monday when some individuals reportedly attempted to shut the gates and prevent further arrangements from taking place.

However, Melaye insisted that the committee resisted the move, maintaining that the party had a legally binding contract and had already made full payment.

“I have that information as a member of the planning committee and the chairman of the protocol committee, and not only we were even asked to leave yesterday, they wanted to shut the gates.

“But we insisted, and said we are not going to leave because we have a contract duly signed with this place, and we paid fully,” he said.

The ADC has continued to express concerns over alleged attempts to frustrate its convention planning process, particularly regarding access to a suitable venue in Abuja.
