Thugs disrupt APC Senate primary in Ondo

Political thugs on Monday stormed the venue of the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary held in Akure, the Ondo State capital, where the senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Adeniyi Adegbomire, was casting his vote

The armed thugs invaded Ebenezer Primary School at Okilisa Ward 5, Akure South Local Government and started shooting sporadically, while party members who were in the queue ran for safety. Many of them sustained injuries from the stampede.

During the melee, the senator, who was also an aspirant of the ruling party, was bundled into his vehicle by his supporters and whisked away, but the bullets marked his Toyota jeep.

Speaking after the incident, Senator Adegbomire expressed displeasure at the attack, alleging that it was politically motivated.

He said, “This is a complete charade. I went to my ward today, which is the APC senate primary. I was there, and while we were there, they told everybody to line up, and they started counting. They counted my supporters who were voting for me. It was about 360 something.

“They started counting that of Taiwo Fasoranti (another aspirant) because there were three lines. Mine was in the middle. Taiwo Fasoranti was to the right. Adu’s one was to the left. They started counting mine because my line was the longest. They felt that they should count mine first.

“When it was glaring to them that I think it got about a hundred and something, thugs came and invaded the place. Shot in the air, shot at my car. I can show you the bullet mark. They started trying to market people. Beating people up. They disrupted the entire process. Now, that is not even bad enough. I am getting reports from all over the senatorial district that the same thing is happening, that they are not allowing my supporters to even get onto the field.”

It was reported that some thugs also disrupted the national assembly primary election in the state at the party secretariat in Akure on Sunday.
