President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu have arrived in the United Kingdom, marking the start of a state visit
Their plane landed at Stansted Airport shortly after 3:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday, under clear skies. A video shared on X by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, shows the aircraft coming to a halt on the runway before the presidential couple disembarks.
“Timeline: 15:23PM. President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu touch down at Stansted Airport, United Kingdom, as the historic visit begins,” Dare wrote.
The visit, extended by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, is the first Nigerian state visit to the UK since 1989 and the first time a Nigerian leader will be hosted at Windsor Castle. Previous visits during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign took place in 1973 and 1981.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the Tinubus will be guests of the King and Queen at Windsor Castle from March 18 to 19.
During the visit, President Tinubu will be the guest of honor at the Nigerian Modernism exhibition, highlighting modern arts and culture, and attend a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders and diaspora members. The president and the king will also meet with national and international organizations focused on promoting interfaith understanding.
