The surprise meeting, which was not publicly announced, comes against the backdrop of the lingering political unrest in Rivers State and has fueled widespread speculation within political circles.

As of the time of this report, neither the presidency nor Fubara’s media team has released any official statement regarding the purpose or outcome of the meeting.

However, the timing and setting of the encounter suggest that significant political negotiations may be underway.

Governor Fubara has been under sustained political pressure since taking office in 2023, navigating a tense standoff with his predecessor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. The power struggle between both men escalated to the point that the federal government declared a state of emergency in Rivers on May 18, 2025.

Tuesday’s meeting may mark a turning point in efforts to restore stability to the state.
