President Bola Tinubu on Thursday hosted the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, at the Aso Villa in Abuja
The meeting, held behind closed doors, focused on trade issues of national, continental, and global importance.

Okonjo-Iweala’s visit comes just two weeks before the end of her first term as WTO chief on August 31, 2025, and the start of her second term on September 1, 2025.
Appointed in 2021 as the first African and first woman to head the 164-member WTO, Okonjo-Iweala has earned global recognition as a development economist and finance expert.
President Tinubu has previously expressed confidence that her continued leadership will further strengthen the WTO’s role as a driving force for inclusive economic growth and good governance worldwide.
