A video from Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting has emerged as President Bola Tinubu and members of his cabinet were heard reciting the old Nigerian national anthem despite change
President Tinubu and the ministers recited “Arise, O Compatriots”—the anthem that was officially replaced in May 2024 when the President signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law, restoring “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” as the country’s official national anthem.

The Federal Government had replaced the 1978 anthem with the original independence anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” following the enactment of the National Anthem Act, 2024.
The video has since raised questions about why the old anthem was recited during the FEC meeting.
As of the time of reporting, the Presidency has not issued any official explanation regarding the incident.
