In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Ejeagha as “one of Nigeria’s greatest folklorists, songwriters, and musicians in the Igbo language.”

Tinubu praised Ejeagha for his lifelong dedication to preserving and promoting Igbo traditions through music, noting that his distinctive storytelling style not only inspired generations but also helped sustain cultural heritage.

“May the spirit and values of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha’s music continue to remind us that music has the power to revive, heal and redirect energy towards worthy causes that help build our nation,” Tinubu stated.

He also commended the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for honoring Ejeagha’s contributions while he was still alive.

The President prayed for the peaceful repose of Ejeagha’s soul and asked God to grant comfort to all those grieving his loss.

Ejeagha, fondly known as “Gentleman,” died at the age of 95 on Friday evening after a prolonged illness. His eldest son, Emma, confirmed the news on Saturday, saying the highlife icon passed away around 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu.
