The statement also announced the appointment of Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new Chairman of the agency, subject to Senate confirmation.

Professor Usman boasts an impressive academic background, having studied at the prestigious University of Madinah and Peshawar University in Pakistan.

Additionally, he has extensive experience in Hajj operations, having successfully led the Kano State Pilgrims Board and managed the largest state pilgrims’ quota in the country.

The President expects the new Chairman to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and dedication to the nation.

Arabi’s tenure was marred by controversy surrounding the 2024 Hajj, which led to his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) along with the commission’s secretary, Abdullahi Kontagora.

An EFCC source revealed that Arabi had fraudulently overpaid himself and other officials, resulting in the recovery of 314,098 Saudi Riyals.
